Meet the Team

Managing Director Dr John Hale, BDS, MSc (London), FICD

John graduated from Otago University Dental School in 1975 and worked in private dental practices in London until 1980 and then in his own group practice in Auckland. In 1990 John returned to London to the Eastman Dental Institute from which he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Restorative Dentistry in 1991.  He was made a fellow of the International College of Dentists in 1993 for services to continuing dental education.

John has acted as a clinical consultant to Oraltec from time to time over the last ten years.  He joined Christine in acquiring the company in 2015 because he believes there is a need to provide a higher level of clinical advice and product knowledge to the dental profession.

Aside from his passion for dentistry, John is an avid snow skier and loves to be on the water or playing golf.

Marketing Director - Christine Bell

Christine joined Oraltec as General Manager in January 1999. Christine has an extensive knowledge of dental products and began developing her skills within the dental industry in 1988 when she joined Shalfoon Dental as Marketing Manager.  She completed a Business Diploma in Marketing in 1992 and then became the New Zealand Manager of Shalfoon Dental before leaving in the mid nineties to have a family.

Christine’s background lies in the healthcare industry, in science related areas – Christine is a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist and has had extensive experience in various healthcare companies.

She feels Oraltec has a special place in the dental industry as it is one of very few New Zealand owned and operated dental supply companies.  It represents a number of smaller, specialised manufacturers from around the world who are focused on narrow product ranges which she believes ensures high quality innovative products.

Laboratory Manager - Kevin Shallcross

Kevin started his dental career in the early 1990’s and graduated in South Africa as a Dental Technologist in 1994.  After working for a leading Crown and Bridge laboratory in South Africa  he joined the dental industry as a Technical Advisor before relocating to New Zealand.

Kevin has worked in a number of positions in New Zealand both in the dental industry and as a dental technician.  Over the years he has developed his knowledge in both analogue and digital techniques and workflows.  Kevin joined Oraltec in 2019 and believes the New Zealand owned companies have a lot to offer.  Oraltec accesses premium products and Kevin feels that putting these into both clinicians and technicians hands is key.  He believes that Oraltec is able to adapt and be flexible to meet customer needs which is important and ultimately helps achieve better patient outcomes.

Territory Manager, North Island - Briony Stevens

Briony has been working in various dental practices on the North Shore of Auckland and in the Waikato for the past 22 years. She has experience in reception, chairside and management in the dental practice environment. Immediately prior to joining Oraltec she was a senior chairside assistant for a dental practice in Hamilton.

Now based in Waikato, Briony is a full time territory manager for Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, BOP, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Palmerston North.  Briony spends her spare time with her family and friends. She enjoys cooking, gardening and motorbike riding.

Territory Manager, South Island Maria Forde

Maria originally commenced with Oraltec in 1994 as a Sales Representative based in Wellington.  She was in that territory for over 10 years before moving to Christchurch for family reasons.  She then spent a few years away from Oraltec and returned in 2010 based in Christchurch as the South Island Territory Manager.

Prior to joining Oraltec, Maria spent a number of years living on a farm and during this time sold cosmetics throughout the local farming district.  She worked for a printing company in Christchurch and at the same time began selling advertising for the Central Canterbury News, while also working part time as a Dental Receptionist.  Maria spent two years working chairside in Christchurch during which time she completed her Dental Assistants training as well as a Sales and Marketing Course.

Territory Manager, Auckland & Wellington – Marike Skinner

Marike qualified as a dental hygienist in 2004 from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.  After she finished her studies she moved back to Namibia where she enjoyed working for Africa’s biggest and busiest orthodontic practice.  In 2011 she moved into sales working for a international pharmaceutical company.  She moved to New Zealand in 2019 to join her extended family in Auckland.  Marike is happy to be part of the Oraltec family and is driven to see Oraltec go from strength to strength.
